SOX (HOSPICE ADOPTION)

Adult | Spayed Female | DOB: 7/14/2021
Domestic Short Hair | Dilute Calico | Fee: WAIVED

Sox is a wonderful cat who was adopted from Camp Kitten in 2021 as a kitten. Then this March, we heard from her adopters, stating they wanted to return her, due to her suddenly urinating on clothes in the house and pulling her own fur out.

We immediately took her back and got her into our veterinarian. She had a urinary tract infection, an ear infection, and bloodwork indicated her kidneys were not working properly. We treated the UTI (she has never urinated outside her litter box here) and ear infection and got her in for an abdominal ultrasound at AERC. We confirmed that her kidneys were significantly under-sized and misshapen, so she is in end-stage kidney failure. At this point, we just want to focus on her quality of life for the (maybe) 1-2 years she has remaining.

Her over-grooming (pulling out fur) was found to be unrelated to her kidney issues, but once we started her on a daily medication called pregabalin, she immediately stopped over-grooming and her fur has grown back in beautifully.

Sox wants nothing more than to snuggle with me as much as possible. She wants pets, head scritches, and snuggles. She loves to play with toys, but immediately comes right back for some love.

Sox does not enjoy the company of other pets at this point in life – but she LOVES spending time with people. While she is welcome to stay with me for her final days, I do think she would thrive as an only-pet in someone’s home. So I decided to post this and see if we find that magical home for her.

Sox will need to continue on her daily medication (she takes it easily; it’s $80 for a ~4 month supply). She will need labwork run every 3-6 months to continue to monitor her kidney function.
Because of all of these aspects, her adoption fee would be waived.

If this might be a fit for you, please submit an adoption application on campkitten.com or if you have any questions, email becky@campkitten.com.
Sox is currently being fostered in ANDOVER.
